🏦 Your Mortgage Rate Hits 2.25%. The Bank of Canada Stops Cutting.

The Bank of Canada cut the key interest rate to 2.25% on Wednesday. This 25-basis-point reduction supports home buyers and investors. Governor Tiff Macklem delivered a strong warning. Monetary policy cannot fix structural economic damage from the U.S. trade war. Canada’s economy shrank in the second quarter. Companies exported less. Businesses invested less. Thousands lost jobs in sectors like autos and steel.

The Bank plans to hold the rate at 2.25%. They expect inflation will stay near their two per cent target. Macklem stated Canadians will not feel very good even with modest growth. Still, consumer spending saw healthy growth. Real estate investment also grew. The Bank stated these facts keep the current rate at the right level.

🏠 First-Time Buyers Save $130,000 on New Ontario Homes

You save up to $130,000 on a new home in Ontario. The province rebates the full 8 percent provincial portion of the HST. This saves first-time buyers up to $80,000. This applies to new homes valued up to $1 million. The federal government’s proposed rebate saves the remaining $50,000. This combined action helps families afford their first home.

Ontario’s new rebate plan works with existing provincial relief. This ensures a minimum relief of $24,000. The rebate gradually reduces for new homes priced between $1 million and $1.5 million. The plan takes effect for purchase agreements signed on or after May 27, 2025. This move helps first-time buyers and spurs the construction of more homes.
