3 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a REALTOR®
Many people hire the wrong REALTOR®. They use the agent their parents used, the one who cuts their aunt’s hair on weekends, or whoever is on the billboard, instead of asking the most important questions.
With a market shaped by trade tensions, changing interest rates and economic uncertainty, choosing the right REALTOR® matters more than ever. Here are the questions Joe Gonzalez says to ask.
1. “Are you a full-time or part-time REALTOR®?”
The only right answer is full-time. A part-time agent is busy with other work, isn’t focused on you, and likely has less experience.
2. “What do you do for marketing? Please show me.”
The first thing your agent has to do is market your home. If all they do is put it on REALTOR.ca and make a social media post nobody sees, that’s not enough. Ask to see real examples.
3. “How long have you been in the business?”
There’s no single right answer, so look at the whole picture:
- 2 years and 30 deals? They’re active, current and know what’s going on.
- 2 years and very few deals? They may not have enough experience yet.
- 30 years and very few deals? They may be outdated.
Bonus: “How many deals did you do last year?”
Look for a happy medium:
- Too many (like 100+), and they may not have enough time for you.
- Too few (like one), and they may not have enough experience.
Don’t let headlines stop you
Veronica Murphy recently talked with buyers who said, “I don’t care what’s going on politically, I want to buy a house.” Uncertainty is always out there. Focus on your goals, not just the noise.
